Wool applique, hand embroidery, sashiko
Pearl cottons are generally the top favourite threads for wool applique. They come in cute little balls, and have different weights. #8, which is thicker, and #12 which is thinner.
These can be used for your applique stitches as well as embroidered details.
Perle Cotton is a highly mercerized, (treated to increase strength and add a bit of sheen), single-strand, cotton embroidery thread.
It is extra soft and lustrous, thus the name, "Perle," and does not kink or knot as frequently as the regular six-strand floss.
Perle cotton comes in a ball in different sizes (thicknesses).
I like to use Perle cotton thread to add dimension and volume to my stitching.
Thread Length - For blanket stitch appliqué, you will need a length of thread approximately four times the distance of the area you are going to stitch.
Long working threads can be cumbersome, curl and knot.
With Wool Felt projects - do not skimp - use the best Wool Felt and never the Acrylic found in craft stores-it is cheap, stretches pulls apart and is not for Quilt and Applique work.
#8 Prescencia Perle cotton is the mid-weight. It can look either thick or thin, depending on how you use it.
