When giving A Quilt as a Gift Always disclose the batting that has been used, allowing the new owner to decide how cleaning will be handled. We always recommend gentle wash cycle. Baby Quilts - 80/20 Heirloom, Cotton Batting, Bamboo Batting, Silk Batting
How do I remove any creases or wrinkles caused by packaging? A.
You can place the batting in the drier for 5 to 10 minutes with a damp washcloth to remove creases or wrinkles.
Bamboo batting is an all natural sustainable crop which doesn’t rely on pesticides or fertilizers. If you cut one stalk, two will grow in it’s place. It is very durable and breathable, which will keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It also drapes well, and adds a high level of quality to heirloom quilts.
I recommend bamboo batting for lightweight quilts. It’s silky and lightweight with excellent breathability, yet is still a sustainable natural fiber.
Bamboo is a great choice for summer time bed quilts and lightweight throw quilts. Maybe more cuddly for baby quilts
Thermore Batting - Great for lining Jackets! This is a very thin polyester batting that has been through a process to make it a better insulator. There is no bearding and has ultra low loft so you can make a very thin quilt that is super warm This batting is excellent for hand or machine quilting.
Wool Batting - Top Seller! people who are quilting to enter shows will often use wool in their pieces to really showcase their stitching. Another great feature of wool is that it springs back, so it resists creases and folds. This is another factor that makes it ideal for show quilts, since those are always getting folded and shipped somewhere.
I love wool for bed and lap quilts.
Wool holds up beautifully to washing--no dry cleaning necessary. In fact, it gets softer and better with repeated washings.
Wool has “memory” it is crease resistant.
Wool breaths well-making it great for quilts you sleep under.
NEW - Cotton Wool Batting from Hobbs 80% Cotton 20% Super Wash Wool This gives you benefits of wool, softer - beautiful loft. The wool addition gives beautiful definition to your quilting stitches 100% machine washable and dryable -- only use the gentle cycle Many use this as a second batting in a quilt that is going into a show and you want that wonderful look that two battings showcase.
Cotton/Poly Blend Batting – Feels like a thick flannel. Generally must be quilted closely. Washes better without pilling. Shrinks slightly. Long arm quilters tend to love the Cotton / Poly blend as they combine the easy handling of cotton but add some loftiness of polyester to make the quilting stand out better.
Cotton blend (usually 80% cotton/20% polyester). Also 60 /40 Mix available.
Polyester is not breathable, it may feel light but it will be way too warm for a summer bed quilt. Can be excellent for wall hangings - no shrinkage.
Silk Batting a natural fiber made from the silkworm cocoon. It is one of the newer batting to come on the market. Warm in Winter -- Cool in Summer Batting made from silk is very light, fluffy and drapes like no other batting.
Fusible Batting is fast, fun and easy. Now Available in Black as well as White And it's accurate, too. Quilters love using fusible batting. That's because they don't have to baste with pins, tacks or stitches. Think of how much time they'll save NOT having to avoid and remove pins!
