Westalee Ensemble de départ Pique Libre
Originally Rulers for Quilting were for longarm machines, now with development by Leonie West a ruler foot for domestic machines was born! We can use rulers on our home sewing machines. The Ruler Foot is a very substantial metal foot. The distance from the needle to any point outside the circle is a perfect 1/4", making it great for precision work. The shank on the back is high to allow the ruler to fit underneath. The outside is perfectly smooth, allowing the ruler to move around on all sides of the foot.
The ruler is placed against the ruler foot, the foot follows the edge of the template as you stitch.
Most sewing machine companies have now brought out a Ruler Foot for their brand of machine. Very important to have the correct foot before you start using your templates.

To fit the Ruler Foot:
- lower the presser foot, then remove the screw that holds the shank,
- attach the Westalee Ruler Foot replace screw.
- To adjust the Ruler Foot height, place the quilt sandwich underfoot,
- simply lower the presser bar (shank),
- loosen the shank screw
- raise or lower the foot, independent of the shank,
- depending on the quilt thickness, tighten the screw.
The required height of our foot can only be determined by stitching a sample; I always have a test sandwich at hand.
Every machine is different as is every quilter. I prefer to free motion with my feed dogs up and my stitch length set at 0 – this is personal preference.
