Quilting with “rulers” is the newest thing!
A BEGINNER’S LESSONS FOR RULERWORK
it's easier than it sounds! In fact, you don't have to be an expert at free motion quilting in order to use rulers
Is ruler work just for traditional designs then? Absolutely not! Many of the top modern Quilters use and design rulers specially for rulerwork on their quilts.Negative space on modern quilts screams for ruler work! Stitch length 0 for free motion and for rulerwork - cover your darning foot with the great slider or the latest greatest Grid glider - this allows fabric to glide. Your stitch length is up to you! Moving your hands slowly and reducing your speed is vital, going fast will see longer stitches and loss of control. Guiding your foot around the rulers - stopping at curves and feeling in control will give you the results you want with this great new way to quilt.
Rulers for ruler work are created specially for use with the Ruler foot. Do not try rulerwork with Rotary Cutting Rulers! Rulers do Slide - so add stable tape, or grip dots.
The needle is always in the centre of the foot- stitching line is always 1/4” away from the edge of the foot. Lower needle into fabric pull up your bobbin thread.
Stitch in place before you start moving Before starting to Sew - Presser foot needs to be down to avoid smashing the ruler
