It is very common to have nicks and burrs on the needle plate due to the close proximity of the needle entering the hole in the needle plate. It is important to remove the nicks and burrs which could cause puckering, snagging of the fabric and/or thread, thread looping and/or breaking. If you cannot remove the nicks and burrs from the damaged needle plate it must be replaced.
