Reduce speed on your machine for best results with joining the thick edges with zig zag stitch.
Suggest a new needle for joining the thick rolls. Use a larger needle. When starting go slow you don't want to see wobbles -
Starting off needs patience, gently ease around the curves as the rug grows it becomes much easier to sew. Many press the first few rounds with each row.
Gloves are a huge help as you are feeding your rug through, the rows must touch not overlap and guiding the rug needs your hands to grip not slip.
